  11. Here's a bizarre question for you audio.mavens out there:  at the moment
  12. one of my stereos has an EAD T-7000 transport driving an EAD DSP-7000
  13. processor driving a Mod Squad Deluxe Line Drive driving a Threshold S/200
  14. driving a pair of Apogee Stages.  (There are about five other source
  15. devices as well, but they don't seem to be causing the problem.)  Now,
  16. about once every two weeks or so, the amplifier itself will begin 
  17. emitting a loud buzzing noise; this does not affect the operation of
  18. the amplifier, nor is there any buzzing or distortion added to the sound
  19. coming out of the speakers.  This buzzing persists until the amplifier is
  20. turned off or the transport drawer is opened and then closed again, at 
  21. which point everything is OK for the next week or two.

  23. The only connection from the transport to the rest of the stereo is a
  24. Straightwire coaxial digital cable; everything is plugged into the same
  25. wall outlet with grounded plugs, though there are three power strips
  26. (one for the amp, one for digital sources, one for analog sources).
  27. This problem has occurred with two different EAD transports (and 
  28. processors), but when I have used one of the EAD processors with a
  29. different transport the problem has not occurred.  Various other pieces
  30. of equipment have been in and out of the system, including a Muse model
  31. 18 sub between the line drive and the amp, without affecting the problem.

  33. Anyway, I'm rather at a loss to figure out anything that could be going
  34. on here--anyone in net.land have any ideas?  Is this hard on the amp?
  35. Should I expect Rod Serling to step out from behind one of the Stages
  36. at any moment?
