  12. Presumably, MD and DCC are not meant to replace CD's, but cassettes.
  13. So, then, if this is the case, where would these boxes fit?  Easy, the
  14. same places as cassettes (but not turntables):

  17. - the walkman
  18. - the car

  20. Well, one of the main uses of cassettes is compilation tapes for the
  21. car and walkman (we have CD's and turntable for prerecorded material),
  22. so we HAVE to have a home unit.  Fine.  Now the problems assoiated
  23. with cars and jogging/walking are the same, but tend to be larger in
  24. the car, so we must ask the the following questions of both DCC and
  25. MD.

  27. - Given the noise of the driving environment, is there a difference
  28. between them?  Will they be better than the cassettes we have?
  29.  
  30. - I live in Boston while I'm in school (I hate Boston so much, I could
  31. cry).  Which handles bumps better?  Is there a difference?

  33. - How many times can you rerecord on the damn things before they begin
  34. to sound like oatmeal?
  35.  
  36. - How easy is it to delete and add new tracks (MD should be able to
  37. walk all over DCC with this--especially if you could use your Mac, PC,
  38. or NeXT box to do disk-style cleaning up for fragmentation and/or disc
  39. copying made easy and/or easy editing, etc)?

  41. - Which medium is more durable?  Can handle changes in temperature the
  42. best?  Hey, does the head touch on MD during playback?  My tapes tend
  43. to disentegrate over time.  I find this most annoying and would be
  44. happy for something more durable.

  46. - And, of course, will there be car models available?

  49. I don't know the answers to these questions and would appreciate any
  50. feedback; however, I suspect that--all other things like price and
  51. marketing skill being equal--MD might be able to win.
