  14. I made a purchasing error a couple years back and bought a Sony STR-AV920.

  16. It works okay, and I can't affort to replace it right now... but the 
  17. Marantz Imperial IVs it's driving are showing their age, and I'd like to 
  18. upgrade my speakers.

  20. However, the receiver has a design flaw;  it doesn't handle low impedances 
  21. well, especially in the bass, and tends to overheat.  Therefore, any 
  22. speakers I buy will have to have an impedance curve that deosn't drop 
  23. significantly below 6 Ohms.  Since most of the modern bookshelf-type 
  24. speakers (Cambridge, Advent, et al) drop as far as 2 Ohms in an effort to 
  25. enhance the bass reponse in a small box, this severly limits my choices.

  27. Can anyone suggest speakers selling for less than $1000/pair that will fit 
  28. my requirements, and still provide satisfying performance when I finally 
  29. do upgrade my electronics?  Or am I best off just keeping the old Imperial 
  30. IVs until I can do the whole deal?
