-
- I just took delivery of my new Yamaha RX-V850 (and Sony MDP-455 LD
- player, Aiwa 810 cassette deck, neither of which are hooked up yet :)
- from J&R Music World last nite, and have a few questions on the
- receiver.
-
- So far, my system consists of the above components, plus a nice
- VHS (oxymoron?) hifi VCR, eq/analyzer, Definitive DR-7's in front
- and Minimus-7's in the rear. Sound quality is great (the DR-7's
- are amazing!).
-
-
- 1) I have an outboard eq/spectrum analyzer between the pre-out/main-in
- couplers on the receiver (for the disco lights :) -- the signal is
- indeed passing through the eq (if I turn the eq off, the receiver goes
- quiet), but the analyzer remains dark (it does work!). Could the
- Yamaha be passing an extremely low signal or something? (adjusting
- the volume on the receiver seemed to have no effect)
-
- 2) I tried to cheat on the center channel--by hooking the center pre-amp
- output to an old boombox, but the signal from the boombox is VERY low.
- I have never had this problem hooking other components to this boombox
- through line level inputs.
-
- 3) The signal from the rear (Minimus-7's) is also a bit low. I have
- to turn the surround channel volume up to ~94-96% for acceptable
- results. I haven't been able to find any sensitivity numbers on
- the Minimus-7's--could it be that low??
-
- Any help appreciated!
-
- Thanks!
