- You can get a 2N4118 or 2N4398, for example, from Motorola.
- This N-Channel JFET has an Idss between 80mA and 240mA. Now
- wire it up with a series source resistor of 75 ohms or so
- (select it with a few typical FETs to get it right) and you
- will have a dependable 15mA current source. The resistor in
- series with the source "degenerates" the JFET so that if it
- happens to be a higher Idss device, it will have more source
- resistor voltage drop, and thereby less on current.
-
- I selected 75 ohms because the JFETs are specified with between
- 1V and 3V of VgsOff. 15mA at 75 ohms will give 1.13V drop, which
- should put the JFET fairly close to the 15mA bias point. My guess
- is that a 5% resistor and a wide range of JFETs will give current
- tolerance of +/-20%.
