- In their technical presentation at the recent AES convention, Sony said that
- Minidisc was designed as a replacement for analog cassette in walkman
- applications, because cassette sales have been declining. The small size is
- needed to make the player small (although it's not very small yet).

- BTW, Philips said it introduced dcc for the same reason (declining cassette
