- Well, your watch is a Hamilton, just as it says. Unfortunately,
- it is not an American made Hamilton, since it says Swiss. However,
- Haminton made some of the finest watches ever produced, and even
- the swiss ones were pretty nice.
-
- Hamilton began making watches back in the late 1800's (1892 to be
- exact), and while many other companies were in existance at this
- time, it is interesting to note that Hamilton is the only one
- that is still in business. They are still located in Lancaster
- PA, and still produce watches, many of them being reproductions
- of watches made in their glory days. Hamilton made some of the
- best Railroad Pocket watches available in their day, and these
- watches were generally favorites with Railroad employees because
- of their quality. I wear a Hamilton pocket watch every day.
-
- As for your watch, the fact that it is in a 14k case means that
- someone paid a fair amount for the watch when it was sold in the
- late 1950's or early 1960's. Hamilton's swiss made automatic
- movements are not as special as the American made ones, but they
- are still favorites of many collectors, and when properly
- maintained, can run just as reliabily as any quartz watch. I'd
- say you have a fine watch.
