- Strictly speaking, Incabloc is a type of shock absorbing system
- for balance jewels. The jewels are mounted in a "fiddle-back" shaped spring
- probably 1/16 inch across at most for an 18 size pocketwatch (about 21/2 " across).
- The spring is supposed to absorb sideways torques, and acceleartive loads on
- the balance pivots.
- The jewels require removal from the spring, and separation of the cap and bearing
- jewels for cleaning followed by re-oiling,
- recapping, and replacement into the spring. I have done these with nothing more
- than tweezers, altho you can probably buy special tools for this.
-
- They are not easier to service for a standard cleaning, but they are easier to
- service than press fit jewels if one is broken and needs replacement. Although
- if you have any kind of a decent watch -the balance jewels are typically in a
- jewel holder which is held in by 2 or 3 itsy bitsy screws. Its a toss up as
- to whether its easier to chase the screws around the table top, or a few
- jewels that insist on rolling away.
-
- By the way the incabloc balance jewls are sexed, and have to be replaced in a certain
- orientation, which is not easy for the novice to see. Further. If you dont get
- the oil ring right on the cap jewel, you have to take it all apart, and clean
- it etc etc until you do get it right -yukk.
-
- Inca and other "bloc" systems tends to save balance staff pivots from
- snapping if you happen to put an
- accelerative or decellerative shock on the watch (ie get pissed at the
- jewels and heave the watch across the room !! :) -of course by then you
- won't need the jewels any more any how ...
-
- Good luck
