- Frequently Asked PNWP Questions (With Answers...)
-
- Last update: November 26, 1992
-
- Here are some answers to these common questions...
-
- 1) How do I get an alias?
- Mail to pnwp-ping@onion.rain.com
-
- 2) I don't need an alias. I just replied to someones message.
- You received an alias so that the other person can reply to you
- and maintain *their* anonyminity. Besides, it's free :-)
-
- 3) How come my message got cut off?
- The software strips anything beyond a line that starts with "--"
- because it looks like a signature. Enough sites/users don't
- know that it's suppose to be "-- " (space), sigh.
-
- 4) Can you delete/change my address?
- I could, but since nobody else can use it, I'd rather not.
- If you really MUST have the alias deleted, I can just forward the
- mail to /dev/null here. Send mail to pnwp-admin@onion.rain.com
-
- 5) Why do I have 'n' aliases?
- A couple of reasons are that you may have posted from different machines
- in or out of your domain, or the more common, your mail took a different
- path to get here, due to re-routing by hosts in between us.
-
- 6) My pings come back, but I haven't seen my message...
- News takes a much more roundabout path than mail, and hence, takes
- significantly longer to get to some sites. News can take 2 weeks
- to reach the most outlying leaf nodes.
-
- 7) Can I post something without the 30 line limit cutting me?
- There is not 30 line limit. I might impose one someday, but I see
- no reason at this time to do that. If you want to get technical,
- there is a 9999 line limit.
-
- 8) How do I use this service?
- Read the signature of any anonymous message, or see the companion
- posting on how to use the pnwp AFS. You can also send mail to
- pnwp-help@onion.rain.com to receive an alias, plus these instructions.
-
- 9) How do I follow up anonymously?
- Save the article to a file. Invoke your mailer, address the followup
- to pnwp-personals@onion.rain.com, and read in the file you saved.
- Edit to your heart's content. Send it.
-
- 10) I can't find onion.rain.com.
- pnwp-*@onion.rain.com should work.
- uunet!onion.rain.com!pnwp-* is an alternate.
-
- 11) Can I post something to a newsgroup other than pnw.personals here?
- No. There are provisions only to post to pnw.personals, and send email.
-
- 12) I would like to post a test message.
- The net and I would rather you didn't. Again, if you sit back and
- read, you'll see that it does in fact work rather well.
-
- 13) How can I cancel an article I just posted
- You can't. Within minutes of receipt of your article by onion,
- the article has already been posted to many machines around the
- Pacific NorthWest. Your best bet is to think before you post.
-
- 14) I sent mail to pnwp-personals (or pnwp-ping or pnwp-###) but didn't see
- my article. What's wrong?
-
- I have absolutely no idea. You MUST send me any/all error messages
- you got as well as letting me know exactly how you submitted the
- article and what the Subject: of your article is. If I don't get at
- least this much information, your request for help will be silently
- ignored (I don't have time to ask people for it).
-
- You should also ask your local news administrator if you're having any
- problems with news locally. Other sites may have received your article
- even if you didn't.
-
- 16) How to I use the pnwp forwarding service?
- See the companion posting on how to use the Anonymous Forwarding Service,
- or send mail to pnwp-help@onion.rain.com
-
- 17) How to I assign a nickname?
- To get a nickname, send mail to "pnwp-nickname@onion.rain.com".
- On the Subject line of the message, include your desired nickname.
- Nicknames may contain the characters: a-zA-Z!@#$%^&*-_+=,./?;:, spaces
- and tabs.
-
-
- If you have any other questions regarding the operation of the Anonymous
- Forwarding Service, you can send mail to pnwp-help@onion.rain.com. If you
- feel the need for human contact, I can be reached at pnwp-admin@onion.rain.com.
