- Seeking _easy_ to understand basics of "things" available on networks. I skimmed
- _Matrix_ but it is advanced. _Online Access_ and _Boardwatch_ mags are also
- advanced. The univ.thru which I access networks provided a manual with a few
- commands and I know how to join news and mail groups. I got a list of some mail
- groups from BITNIC but the ones I want to join don't exist. I have accessed 2
- libraries. Can I get games and pictures, etc. with my Mac 512K? (2 400K
- floppy drives)
- I know that networks are not centralized yet many people seem to access many
- more resources than I. Is there some wide overview available in easy to
- understand form. I don't even know enough to know if these questions are
- important!
- Are all news groups on usenet? Are these groups primarily on small, private
- nets called BBSs or what? On what net are mail groups. Since I can access
- Internet should I want to access the various BBSs advertised in above
- magazines? My university's manuals mention Internet, Bitnet, and Telnet.
- What is available there? What other nets can I access thru these.
-
- Are discussion groups owned by individuals? Or just moderated or maintained?
- Are they started by individuals or by vote supervised by some mysterious "thing"
- or person on Internet? What important questions am I failing to ask? Why do my
- words fail to always go to the left margin? Who or what can help?
-
- HELP!
-
- Is my name at beginning and end of this message? I use certain commands which
- should do automatically that but some say my name is not there. I now manually
- place it here: Stephen Grossman, but it should also be in header and sig.
