  25. Sorry, but I'm in Germany. This is a public system with no user fees. How
  26. could I ever get connected without spending more than half of my income
  27. to the post office and the net provider???

  29. The only thing, the remote nntp would tell me is something like:

  33. The company pays for mail (which is also not affordable in us terms), news
  34. is fully ran on privat bills.

  36. I've once calculated that 1k of mail (incoming or outgoing, we are paying
  37. for both) cost about 1,15 DM (which is about 76 cents, not including
  38. provider fees for the base service. Count that up and rethink...

  42. Phone costs are enourmously high here too. One is forced to use the fastest
  43. equipment he can afford to cut them down. Since all calls are LD too, I
  44. had to invest in modems about twice a year. The slowest line I have now
  45. is run by a worldblazer, the fastest is a ISDN card.
