  17. Are you sure about that?  Back when I was a student, I was driving my '7X
  18. Plymouth Duster back from Joisey to Boston with a broken speedo and
  19. radio.  I was happily listening to a portable radio with headphones and
  20. cruising behind anybody I could find to be sure I wasn't speeding too badly,
  21. when I (and the guy I was cruising behind) got pulled over in a radar trap
  22. just over the state line from CT to MA on Rt. 84 (jeez, it was probably
  23. still 86 back then).  The exchange went something like this:

  25. Cop: "Do you know how fast you were going?"
  26. Me: "No, my speedometer is broken."
  27. Cop: "Come on, you must have some idea how fast you were going."
  28. Me: "No, I really have no idea."
  29. Cop: "Do you know it is illegal to listen to headphones while driving in MA?"
  30. Me: (looking worried) "No, I didn't know that!"
  31. Cop: "Is your radio broken too?"
  32. Me: "Yup."

  34. He gave me a warning.
