- Nor will I. However, I will continue to buy their batteries (and
- tools and probably other stuff from the retail store and, if the
- timings right, I've found that they sometimes have good tire prices
- too). Someone else mentioned an incident with the Sears tester
- claiming the alternator needed to be charged but the dealer said it
- didn't, and wondered whether the Sears guy was trying rip off an extra
- $200 or the dealer just didn't want to do a warranty job. Given my
- experience with both Sears service and dealer service shops, I'd say
- they're both lying :-) Seriously, this is a case where I'd get a third
- opinion. If there's a gas station you frequent regularly that does
- mechanical work, it's a good idea to have them check your charging
- system. Tell them ahead of time that you're looking for a second
- opinion because of the warranty claim. Most will do it for a nominal
- fee in hopes of getting your future business when the warranty is
- over, and/or for jobs that aren't covered now. If you don't have such
- a station, the BBN mechanics list that is posted here periodically is
- a great resource for finding one near you. I've found two mechanics
- that way and had good experience with them (I moved far away enough
- each time to need to get a new one).
