- I second the Sears DieHard recommendation. I replaced two OEM batteries on
- my previous and current cars, and they seem to last very long, maybe even
- longer than the cars themselves. It cost me around $60, and if you bring your
- old battery they'll give you some money back for your trouble.
-
- Sears can replace the battery free of charge. This is the only thing I would
- recommend you to have it done, since the last time I did this I ask them to
- check the charging system, they told me I need a new alternator (>$200). They
- say the regulator, the thing that broke, is an inseparable part of the alter-
- nator, which is true. But upon checking it with a dealer, the regulator was
- not broken. The irony is I don't know who is trying to fool me, Sears to get
- my money, or the dealer who doesn't want to fix warranty item. But the battery
- has never acted up on me since without replacing the regulator. I am carrying
- a jumper cable in the car now just in case it won't survived this winter.
-
- BTW, there is a Sears in the Cambridgeside Galleria. I don't know if they have
- the garage there, though. If you want to install it yourself, bring the old
- battery with you, since it will be a lot of hassle disposing it otherwise.
- Just be careful, the battery acid can eat your clothing and skin.
