  23. netiquette and could use a gentle reminder to check out the messages in
  24. news.announce.newusers.

  28. Although there are no ``net police'' (and I would disagree with that;
  29. they just aren't as overt as you would think), there are accepted norms
  30. of behavior on the net.  i.e. don't post business ads on the net except
  31. in biz.*.

  33. People regularly overstep these conventions, and are subsequently
  34. flamed by everyone and their brother.  I have seen only a few isolated
  35. instances where the person _knew better_ but was being obnoxious
  36. anyway; in most of the cases I have seen, once the poster was informed
  37. what convention was (and why it was so), they would cease and desist.

  39. So far, people trying to contact either the sysadmin at anatolia or
  40. Serdar Argic have been utterly unsuccessful.  I'd like to see if anyone
  41. knows either one of them or knows how to contact them, by phone, in
  42. person, at a UUM meeting, whatever.  That's what I'm trying to
  43. accomplish here.
