  15. The Minnesota Regional Network Corporation (MRNet) is currently seeking an
  16. experienced Network Engineer to fill a permanent full-time position.
  17.  
  18. MRNet is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation established for the purpose of
  19. enhancing the academic, research and economic environment of the state
  20. through
  21. the use of computer networks. MRNet presently provides access to the national
  22. Internet for colleges, universities, schools, libraries, government agencies
  23. and businesses. Additionally, we will be developing expanded user services
  24. and
  25. educational programs for the use of wide-area networks in education and
  26. business.
  27.  
  28. Required knowledge and experience:    
  29. - All IP protocols, associated applications and their use,
  30. - routers, bridges and terminal servers administration and operation,
  31.   preferably with those of Cisco Systems,
  32. - Unix system administration, preferably with Sun Microsystems Sparc
  33.   workstations,
  34. - telephone digital data services (DS0 and DS1).
  35.  
  36. Desirable knowledge and experience:    
  37. - OSI protocols,
  38. - DOS PCs and Novell networks,
  39. - Digital VAX systems,
  40. - Macintosh and Appletalk networks,
  41. - fast-packet or cell-switching technologies.
  42.  
  43. Position tasks: 
  44. - administer and operate a wide-area high-performance IP network consisting
  45. of
  46.   one or more major hubs and 50 or more attached member organizations;
  47.   troubleshoot and correct any problems or errors,
  48. - administer and oversee the technical operation of a dialup SLIP service,
  49. - provide for and facilitate new member connections,
  50. - consult with new members and aid troubleshooting efforts with all
  51.   connections,
  52. - install and administer a network management system,
  53. - develop and offer technical educational programs for present and
  54. prospective
  55.   members' staff,
  56. - prepare and convene monthly technical meetings for member representatives,
  57. - represent MRNet at national technical forums such as the IETF,
  58. - develop plans and programs for the expansion of the network throughout the
  59.   state to schools, libraries, non-profit service agencies, information
  60.   providers,government agencies and businesses,
  61. - assist the Director in marketing and outreach efforts by providing
  62. technical
  63.   expertise and assistance in presentations,
  64. - advise the Director on plans and options with new emerging telephone and
  65.   routing technologies.

  67. You will be the primary technical officer for MRNet and help set strategy for
  68. and direct all technical operations. You should have good communications
  69. skills, be easily able to work with other people and explain complicated
  70. technical issues to the uninitiated. You must be able to work well with a
  71. small team of dedicated people working to build a high-quality network
  72. service
  73. with enhanced user services and educational programs that will expand network
  74. access and use throughout Minnesota.
