- I have a friend in Litomy\v{s}l, Czechoslovakia who has capitalist
- urges and has asked me for any advice on how to proceed. In hopes
- that somebody reading this has better ideas than me, I'm asking
- the rest of the world. (Note followup, as I suspect that if anyone
- has anything to say, this will become a discussion on commerce in
- Czechoslovakia rather than anything else.)
-
- In short, as president of the local chapter of Spole\v{c}nost
- P\v{r}\'{a}tel USA (Society of Friends of the USA), Josef has come
- into contact with many Americans traveling to Litomy\v{s}l (pop.
- 11,000, on the border of Bohemia and Moravia, about 160 km from Prague),
- frequently for reasons of having ancestors from the area. Two problems
- with this travel are that many travel agencies handling matters on the
- U.S. side appear to be less than satisfactory, and the hotel situation
- in Litomy\v{s}l is such that rooms are scarce and overpriced. The
- society thinks that the situation is ripe for a bed&breakfast/pension
- and also hope that some travel agency trying to improve their services
- would have some interest in contracting for local expertise.
-
- Essentially, it's the problem of trying to bootstrap capitalist ventures
- where capital is still scarce and where recently a vacuum existed. They
- don't have the money to purchase a local property for a venture of this
- sort, and they don't have any contacts in the travel industry in the U.S.
- in order to get started.
-
- Any ideas? Any contacts? Any organizations involved with bootstrapping
- local ventures in Czechoslovakia?
