- I'm hoping some tax savvy person out there may be able to help me out
- here. I have been going to graduate school now for over a year. For
- this entire time I have been getting all of my eduational
- reimbursement (from the company for which I work) on a tax-free basis.
- That is educational reimbursement did not show up as taxable income on
- my W-2.
-
-
- ...Until HR 11 (house resolution?) was vetoed by my good friend G.Bush
- (the education president). The effect of this is that now my
- educational reimbursement WILL be taxable income. And to make it
- worse, educational reimbursement back to JUNE is taxable.
-
- I had no idea that the taxable status of my educational reimbursement
- was on the chopping block. My graduate school fees are significant
- (Stanford tuition is outragous, but since they can count on the
- corporations around here to pick up the tab for part-time grad
- students, they really charge!). Now I have to come up with thousands in
- taxes I had no idea about.
-
- When the announcement was circulated here at work, it was suggested
- that some people may still be able to deduct the tuition from their
- income, but that we need to figure that out on our own...uhg.
-
- Does anybody out there know anything about this. What kind of tuition
- is tax deductable and what kind isn't? How about books, supplies,
- etc? Does anybody have any good advice on tax preparation companies
- (H&R Block?), or sources of good tax information?
-
- Does anybody know the status of HR11?
