- A simple "rural" humidifier we've used here in the Arctic (where it gets
- VERY dry in winter):
-
- Pot or tub of water on stove. Towel suspended in water (bottom of towel
- should almost, but not quite, touch the bottom of the water container)
- to wick the water up into the air where the heat makes it evaporate.
-
- That pot of water on the stove is handy for many things anyhow: a quick
- place to warm your hands when you've gotten them cold, etc. This system is
- simple, silent, economical, and it works for me. I guess the only drawback
- is the unsightliness, if you are concerned by such things (I'm not!).
-
- I suppose you could even experiment with controlling the amount of humidity
- generated by varying the surface area of the towel and/or rigging a cover
- for the water container.
