- INDIA
- A panel of Supreme Court judges who had been appointed to look into the
- complaints against their fellow judge Justice Ramaswami have reported that
- the complaints are valid and have recommended his dismissal. These complaints
- relate to financial irregularities when he was serving as CJ of the Punjab
- and Haryana high court. It is probably the first time such action has been
- contemplated against a Supreme Court judge in India.
- The BJP-sponsored no confidence motion is being debated in parliament.
- Both Congress and non-BJP opposition have been attacking the BJP, though the
- latter have also been criticising the government's inability to prevent the
- crisis. BJP leader Vajpayee has apologised publicly for the destruction.

- The UAE government has expelled a large number of foreigners who were
- said to be living there illegally. They include about 5000 Pakistanis and 300
- Indians. They had been detained after participating in demonstrations
- protesting against the destruction of the Babri Masjid.
