- An interesting thought, but not original. El Salvador at one point
- in the 1840s considered applying for admission to the USA. Slave
- advocates vigorously supported the idea of acquiring many parts of
- Central America and Cuba as a method of extending slavery, and
- increasing the number of slave states.
