- The cord around the neck senarrio (sp?) is the best example of the scare
- tactics that many use to defend a hospital birth only mentallity. The
- truth is that most "emergancys" are nothing but things to watch out for
- in any birth. When I took EMT training we were taught how to
- handle situations such as cord around the neck (which by the way is
- handled by simply sliding a finger under the cord to make sure it
- is loose so the baby doesnt choke and if it is too tight you simply
- cut the cord before the baby is fully birthed)
-
- Robin had the cord around his neck twice. Our midwife handled it by
- sliding her finger under the cord and then unwrapping it from around
- the little guy's neck. Simple, effective, low-tech, sensible solution.
-
- Katherine also had her cord wrapped around her neck. Same exact
- procedure.
-
- Our midwife says that a wrapped cord is one of the more common things
- she deals with.
