  26.    The cord around the neck senarrio (sp?) is the best example of the scare
  27.    tactics that many use to defend a hospital birth only mentallity.  The
  28.    truth is that most "emergancys" are nothing but things to watch out for
  29.    in any birth.  When I took EMT training we were taught how to
  30.    handle situations such as cord around the neck (which by the way is
  31.    handled by simply sliding a finger under the cord to make sure it
  32.    is loose so the baby doesnt choke and if it is too tight you simply
  33.    cut the cord before the baby is fully birthed)

  35. Robin had the cord around his neck twice. Our midwife handled it by
  36. sliding her finger under the cord and then unwrapping it from around
  37. the little guy's neck. Simple, effective, low-tech, sensible solution.

  39. Katherine also had her cord wrapped around her neck. Same exact
  40. procedure.

  42. Our midwife says that a wrapped cord is one of the more common things
  43. she deals with.
