  23. We had to pay for both weeks, though Kevin wasn't going to go to
  24. daycare at all.  He ended up there one day this week, and maybe
  25. one day next week since we paid.  (My husband took his daughter
  26. to a movie this week, and maybe next week when I'm home I can
  27. get my hair cut).

  29. I don't feel bad paying because I get paid the whole 2 weeks,
  30. even though I only had to work 4 of the 10 days.  I thought
  31. if the daycare provider could find some other kid to watch
  32. (she does watch some school age kids during school holidays)
  33. she wouldn't charge us, but not the case.

  35. We didn't really go through all this when we started with
  36. her, but one other in-home provider had hers stated very
  37. clearly.  You could take two weeks vacation during the
  38. year, without paying her.  That was it.  If you took
  39. more vacation time (I get 4 weeks) you just pay her for
  40. the additional weeks whether you use her services or not.
  41. Seems fair to me.  I pay only $100 per week, which is
  42. a good price for this area so I don't feel bad paying, especially
  43. during this time of year.

  45. On a different note, I also bought our daycare provider a present
  46. that cost about $100, keeping in line with the 1-week pay theory.
  47. (I got her a nice cordless phone.  Her phone was a $14 bargain
  48. I couldn't hear her on the other end unless she yelled).

  50. So, my advice is to look at your work/vacation/pay plan at your
  51. company.  I felt comfortable paying my provider because I
  52. get 4 weeks paid vacation, 15 paid holidays, and sick time
  53. as necessary.  I think she deserves the same.
