- ditto on Primerica. They might actually charge 8.5% front-end load. All the
- books I have read on mutual funds come to the same conclusion - that there is
- no advantage of load funds versus no-load funds.
-
- >>There is a book that you should pick up and read before making any decisions:
-
- >>"How to Pick the Best No-load Mutual Funds for Solid Growth and Safety"
-
- >>by SHELSON JACOBS

-
- He means Sheldon.
-
- This is not a totally excellent book, IMHO. It is excellent in it's
- explanation of the different types of funds available (ie aggressive growth,
- growth, growth and income). I found the book to be somewhat disorganized,
- however. It also didn't go into much detail about how to allocate your assets
- to any group of mutual funds. Thus, I don't think it will answer all your
- questions.
-
- These are some other books that I recommend you look at.
-
- 1. A book written by Keith Brouwer. I have the book (along with Sheldon's,
- btw). I can't remember the title (the cover is yellow). He provides a very
- clear method for evaluating mutual funds and how to allocate your assets. He,
- like Sheldon, is lacking when it comes to determining when it is better to
- be in one type of fund over another (ie. market timing). Keith was recently
- featured in Kiplinger's (9/92 or 10/92?). One nice thing about his book is
- that if you have any questions, you can send him a letter and he will answer
- it.
-
- 2. The 100 best mutual funds you can buy, by Williamson(?). I just got this
- out of the library. It has some good questions you should ask yourself before
- investing in a mutual fund. His 100 best funds may or may not be - but it may
- be considered good reinforcement if he likes a fund you like.
-
- 3. The AAII guide to no load mutual funds.
-
- Also. just go to your library to see what they have on mutual fund investing.
- Mine has both general stuff like above as well as the Morningstar rating book.
