- I heard that one of the writers of "Heard in the Street" was
- prosecuted a few years back for insider trading. Apparently
- he was accepting money for advance information.
-
- Talking about suspicious patterns, SoftwareTools got a big
- boost because of a plug by the manager of the Acorn Fund,
- in this weeks Barrons. The boost occurred over 2 days --
- the Friday (i.e BEFORE Barrons comes out) and Monday.
-
- You can't sell short except on an uptick. I doubt that there
- would be an uptick after the article from Barrons. So,
- you couldn't really make money off of it. Actually
- the stock might open immediately at a lower
- price.
-
- On the other hand, if you could get the information on
- the Friday before Barron's came out, then you definitely
- could make money big-time (which is what I'm guessing
- happened with Software Tools).
