- Does anyone have opinions on the relative value of IBM versus DEC.
- Which represents a better value, which is more likely to turn
- profitable first, which stock is more likley to
- appreciate in the next two years? How do the restructurings
- of the two companies compare?
-
- They were both leaders in the last business cycle and the previous
- computing environment of bigger machines, both are in the
- process of restructuring and down sizing, both have taken very large
- hits on their profitability and their (stock) market values and
- both are trying to compete in a disadvantaged environment for them.
-
- While DEC's stock seems to have bottomed it has reacted a
- little on the downside with the recent masacre of IBM. They have
- both come down around 75% from their highs of the last cycle. The
- predictions for IBM are for continued declines down to perhaps 40.
- What about DEC?
