- Joshua Putnam said this:
- Quite the contrary. The ethical and moral underpinnings of free
- trade are freedom of choice and limited government. No
- collection of people has the right to use force or the threat of
- force to prevent mutually-advantageous economic transactions among
- consenting adults. That such a collection of people calls
- itself a government instead of a mafia does not destroy the
- rights of those whose transactions are being suppressed.
-
- WRONG! Ask any economist. They'll tell you that free-trade is an economic
- model only. It is quite possible to have a free market system under a
- monarchy, oligarchy, even a totalitarianist state. And, BTW, as for this
- "mutually-advantageous" bullshit, are you then in favor of legalized
- prostitution (I am, but I bet you aint). What about legalized drug sales?
- Selling handguns to ex-convicts? These could all be "mutually-advantageous
- economic transactions among constenting adults", if we were so stupid as to
- let them all be. However, ethical and moral considerations apart from
- economics come into play. Which is why we ourselves are not purely
- free-trade. Learn what rights really are, before you spout this silliness,
- please.
