- I urge all to view any Frontline specials that are broadcast on PBS
- stations. The one aired that dealt with Matshusita dumping TVs in the
- US market was quite informative. MAtshusita did dump TVs, but they
- were allowed to by the Nixon administistration and the US Congress who
- allowed liberal trade dis-symetry with JApan in order to secure JApan's
- cooperation as supply and staging point for US forces shipping out to
- Vietnam. Mathusita also took care to make their TVs of superior
- quality, thus engaging future consumer loyalty.
- Another fine Frontline broadcast was titled "The erosion of democracy
- in America". This special dealt with the high cost o frunning polital
- campaigns and the fact that in order to be re-elcted politicians must
- accept contributions from special interests and Political Action
- Commitees. ie lobbyists that represent Japanese companies for one.
- If company X from Japan donates $100,000 to Congressman Y's campaign
- how do expect him to vote on legislation that affects "free trade"?
- The average Joe American does'nt need to fear Japan Inc. so much as
- he needs to fear his own politicians selling his interests and the
- interests of future generations down the river.
- Americans have been blessed with a country rich in natural resources
- and wealth for so long that we have grown complacent and woefully
- uninformed and apathetic. We can afford note to vote. We can afford
- not to care who we elect to office. We can afford not care about
- election and campaign reform.
- When enough people lose their jobs, can't afford to buy a house,
- can't afford college for their kids etc. maybe then will have another
- small revolution in this country.
- If it's not so late that it does'nt destroy us, competition is a
- great thing, Detroit is finally producing interesting, quality cars
- again. THis would not have happened without competition from JApan and
- other countries. We need politicians to insure no one is getting an
- unfair edge. Are they doing the job? Did you vote? Will you vote next
- election?
