- MB> Our fire/EMS company is looking at moving into the 20th century
- and
- MB>buy an electronic EMS toy. The push is on to obtain a PulseOx unit,
- but
- MB>my belief is we could far better using a combined unit of electronic
- MB>BP cuff & PulseOx. I welcome your input on the following questions;
-
- MB>1) What units are you using?
- MB>2) What functions get used the most?
- MB>3) What problems have you had?
- MB>4) Are their any problems with calibration/repair of the unit?
- MB>5) What would you have gotten if you knew what you know now?

- Merle,
- I am a fulltime paramedic in Ocean county NJ. Our department
- looked at pulse ox units a couple of years ago. I have also looked
- at some of the automatic BP units. The BP units I have seen do not
- provide accurate readings in a moving vehicle. After trying the
- pulse ox units for a period of time, the only real advantage I saw
- (my opinion shared by others within my department) was in the
- confirmation of the status of patients that appeared to be
- hyperventilating. What it basiclly came down to is, do you treat
- the patient or the equipment. Although it would be nice to have,
- the expense really didn't seem to be justified. I would be interested
- in hearing how you make out with any of these units; maybe your results
- would justify a re-evaluation of the equipment. BTW the companies we
- contacted loaned us demo units for an evaluation. Good luck!
