- Michael P. Rolfes:

- I once had a Kide
-
-
- fire extinguisher fail. I purchased it around the middle of
- 1991 brand new from a department store (Sears or Wards...etc.) I don't
- remember the exact model of the extinguisher, but it was a class ABC with a
- plastic body and nozzel, about 1.5 feet tall and 4 or so inches in diameter.
- I usually kept it in my boat (which is in my driveway most of the time, and is
- only run in freshwater) and I would sometimes take it with me on car trips and
- camping trips. I needed it once when I was camping, my coleman lantern flared
- because of leakes in the fittings, so I pulled the pins (which were intact),
- aimed at the base, and shot. Nothing came out.
-
- Apparently, the gas which charges the extinguisher had all escaped.
- All of
- the extinguishing agent, however, was still inside. To put the fire out, I
- broke off the plastic nozzel and poured the extinguishing agent over the fire.
-
- I suggest you write to Kidde with all of the specifics of the incident and the
- extinguisher and either 1) notify them for the purpose of informing them of
- a defect for their information or 2) notify them for the purpose of
- reimbursement or replacement. Who knows, the company might have to recall
- some of their extinguishers if there is an inherant problem in their pressure
- management.
