- I've heard this a couple of times. Does anyone know what the
- "coefficient of expansion" of water is with temperature? All my books
- are packed since I'll be off the net in a few days (changing jobs).
- I'd think that there might also be a contributing factor if you had
- some air at the top of your water heater (don't know if this would
- generally be possible or not) which was heated and expanded ...
-
- I had this problem, but it was due to a faulty thermostat on the water
- heater. It was boiling the water on the lower element (and costing me
- a BUNCH in electricity to do that...) and the steam pressure caused the
- overflow valve to open (I've also been told that once they DO open,
- frequently they go bad and need to be replaced). Once I fixed my
- thermostat problem (a major story in itself) my overflow drip ceased...
