  14. Does anyone out there know anything about manufactured (modular) 
  15. housing or has any experience with a house built using manufactured 
  16. housing.  I'm not referring to a mobile home, I'm referring to a 
  17. house that is built in a factory and then shipped to the site and 
  18. assembled together.  The finished house should look no different than a
  19. stick built house.

  21. I'm doing research on this to see if this is a good (and cheaper)
  22. alternative to custom building a home on a lot.
  23.  
  24. Information that I would like to get is
  25.  
  26.     * Companies and/or factory that manufactures this type
  27.     of house in the Southern Calif. area.
  28.     * Industry Assn. and or books that I can call or look
  29.     up to find companies that do this
  30.     * Experiences that people have had in having a home
  31.     built this way.
  32.     * References that I should consult (articles, books, etc)
  33.  
  34.      And any information that I need before I should even consider
  35. using this method of building a custom house.

  37.      I'm considering this method because of the horrible experiences
  38. my relatives have had with general contractors in adding a bathroom,
  39. bedroom and building a house.
