- Aside from detectors designed for alarm systems, the only one I am aware
- of is the First Alert SA86RAC, privately labeled under many other
- names. this alarm is line or battery powered but the interconnect
- does not work except when line powered. Price is about $12 at Home
- Depot.
-
- Supplying line power to these is not difficult. Since they only draw
- milliamps, it is acceptable to run the power using telephone station
- wire. Feed the line through a current limiting device such as a
- resistor. That's the approach I've taken in my house. It is plugged
- into my computer UPS so power is reliable. These $80 inverters designed
- for on-the-go laptop users is an alternative if you don't have a UPS.
- Compared to the approximate $50 cost for alarm detectors, this is
- a cheap out.
