  20. At least here in Reading, MA, where we deal with Boston Gas, there is nothing
  21. in it for them.  The gas company charges me an extra amount per therm of gas
  22. used each month that goes into a fund to pay for energy conservation
  23. improvements that people make to their homes and/or apartments.  The rate
  24. payers are the ones paying for the energy conservation programs.  I would not
  25. be surprised if this program was required by the state of Massachusetts.

  27. In some ways this makes a little sense.  The less gas that is used the lower
  28. the demand so the lower the rates.  Therefore it makes some sense for me to
  29. help others to conserve to help keep my rates down.
