  10. My 500W Halogen lamp has a dimmer switch but I hardly ever use it on max
  11. because it gets so hot near the bulb that it starts to smoke, usually caused
  12. by dust or a dead fly nearby. Although I will sometimes use a brighter
  13. tungsten bulb than indicated for a fixture, I would be more wary with halogens,
  14. as there seems to be less tolerance for error. Allen
