  22. 1.   I completely endorse John MacDougall's analysis of Xanana
  23. Gusmao's alleged letters appealing to FALINTIL fighters to
  24. surrender. Therefore I do not need to elaborate further.

  26. 2.   Courtesy of TAPOL I received a faxed copy of the alleged
  27. letters published by 'Jawa Pos' on 6 December 1992. I did not
  28. need to have a closer look to conclude that the letters are
  29. very amateurish forgery.

  31. 3.   I have numerous hand-written letters from Xanana and
  32. others that are type-written with his signature dating from at
  33. least two years ago till as recently as the first week of
  34. November 1992, two weeks before his capture. None of these
  35. letters bear a remote resemblance to the ones published by
  36. Jawa Pos. Xanana's signature is not that easily forged. There
  37. are some details in the signature which only I and Xanana know
  38. about that indicate whether a signature had been or not
  39. forged.

  41. 4.   Regarding certain statements emanating from Lisbon and
  42. Maputo, I have written a piece for Diario de Noticias which I
  43. believe answer all the questions. I believe that it had been
  44. published. I hope that CDPM will provide an English
  45. translation.
