  20. VETERANS GROUP HITS SOMALI INTERVENTION

  22. A veterans group from Staten Island, N.Y., has spoken out in
  23. protest against the U.S. military intervention in Somalia.
  24.  
  25. Meeting on Dec. 3, the Richmond County American Veterans
  26. Association voted unanimously to send a telegram to President
  27. Bush and President-elect Clinton expressing dismay at the
  28. decision to send a military force to Somalia.
  29.  
  30. The telegram attacks the decision as being a "camouflage for
  31. another U.S. military intervention in a Third World country, one
  32. which puts the lives of American soldiers at risk." The group has
  33. called instead for a dramatic increase in airlifts of food
  34. shipments to Somalia under UN auspices.
