- VETERANS GROUP HITS SOMALI INTERVENTION
-
- A veterans group from Staten Island, N.Y., has spoken out in
- protest against the U.S. military intervention in Somalia.
-
- Meeting on Dec. 3, the Richmond County American Veterans
- Association voted unanimously to send a telegram to President
- Bush and President-elect Clinton expressing dismay at the
- decision to send a military force to Somalia.
-
- The telegram attacks the decision as being a "camouflage for
- another U.S. military intervention in a Third World country, one
- which puts the lives of American soldiers at risk." The group has
- called instead for a dramatic increase in airlifts of food
- shipments to Somalia under UN auspices.
