  29. European Community Hits Cuba on Human Rights
  30.  
  31. The European Community (EC) criticised Cuba in a statement issued
  32. on Dec. 22, citing its human rights violations, particularly the
  33. persectution of activists by Havana authorities.  The 12 members
  34. spoke specifically of the case of Sebastian Arcos, who fought in
  35. the Cuban revolution and who is now the head of the Cuban
  36. Committee for Human Rights. He was recently sentenced to four
  37. years and eight months for distributing "enemy propaganda,"
  38. according to the US right-wing group Freedom House. Freedom House
  39. also mentioned human rights activists Elizardo Sanchez and Jesus
  40. Yanez Pelletier. According to Freedom House's information, these
  41. two were beaten on Dec. 10, International Human Rights Day. (edlp
