  19. AUSTRALIA
  20.  A study by the Australian Human Rights Commission has found that
  21. women are still paid considerably less than their male
  22. counterparts. The study looked at sex discrimination in over-award
  23. payments, and the commission's report was tabled in parliament Dec
  24. 17.

  26. Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Quentin Garth, says the
  27. report sounds a warning about what could happen to women's wages in
  28. a less regulated industrial relations system. He says measures have
  29. to be put in place now to prevent the disparity in male and female
  30. payments grow any wider.

  32. The report has found that full time workers are five times more
  33. likely to receive over-award payments than part time workers. Yet
  34. 80% of the part time workforce is made up of women .

  36. The report has recommended unions and individuals make use of the
  37. six discrimination acts to bring parity in wages. It has also
  38. recommended over-award payments be made to part time workers. (R.
