  13. I've posted pleas for help on several Internet and K12Net
  14. message areas and sincerely appreciate the advice given.  Thanks!!

  16. I learned just last week that I was going to receive $7,000 in
  17. computer equipment for my classroom.  I already have a
  18. modem-equipped IBM AT 386 w/ printer AND a phone line.  I started
  19. compiling a "Wish List" and posted my plea for help on the Internet
  20. and K12Net.

  22. I've modified my wish list as per the suggestions given me by half a
  23. dozen respondents.  PLEASE Let me know what you think.  This is a
  24. one shot deal, and I want to get the best bang for the buck:

  26.         multi-disk CD-ROM player w/sound card, speakers,
  27.                 and multimedia disks (e.g., encyclopedia, atlas,
  28.                 Guinness <sp?> Book of World Records, etc.)
  29.         laser printer (Jet 4?)
  30.         9600 baud (or higher) fax/modem and 14450 UART chip
  31.         page-sized scanner w/OCR software
  32.         portable tape backup system (Colorado Trakker) 250 meg
  33.         overhead projector interface
  34.         386 or 486 notebook/laptop w/60 meg HD, internal 2400
  35.                 (9600?) baud fax/modem, trakball
  36.         extra serial ports

  38. . . . and as many IBM AT 486 DX clones as can be purchased with the
  39. money left over.  These PC's should have the following features:

  41.         LARGE hard drive (150 meg minimum)
  42.         4 to 8 meg RAM
  43.         SVGA monitor
  44.         serial mouse (cordless?)
  45.         2 extra serial ports
  46.         5 1/4" floppy drive (1.2 meg)
  47.         3 1/2" floppy drive (1.4 meg)
  48.         DOS v 5.0 (or latest version)
  49.         Windows (latest version)
  50.         Network card w/lantastic (?)

  52. Have I forgotten anything?  Is there anything here that you think is
  53. unnecessary?  Superfluous?  Redundant?

  55. One respondent suggested I get a Macintosh IIvi or vx.  I don't know
  56. my Apples very well <g>.  If you know what these two types of
  57. computers are capable of doing, could you puh-LEEEZE let me know?
