  18. establish the factual nature of the document you are quoting.

  20. The bible has SERIOUS authenticity problems as a historical document 
  21. in some aspects and to use it as such, one would have to detail the 
  22. specific history of the entire set of permutations of language and 
  23. menaing and connotations for the translations and changes made to 
  24. the sections youare quoting...

  26. This is a SCIENCE forum...not RELIGION... some referents to the "day 
  27. to day" referents that peopel use in life (some folks are religious) 
  28. is ok, but we need to discriminate what we know as fact from what 
  29. some people may assume on the basis of social convenience or 
  30. indoctrination.

  32. As scientists iit is our JOB or TASK to learn to be analytical and 
  33. critical of all data and assumed relationships.

  37. You may choose to believe the bible is the work of god... and if so 
  38. and if that brings your pleasure or security or makes you behave better 
  39. to your fellow human beings...then I am sure everyone is delighted... 
  40. and that is a fine choice for you to make as an individual for your 
  41. own emotional or personal health... but a questionable or silly reference 
  42. to make in a scientific context.
