- Hello Leah!
-
- It sure was nice to run into you and Chuck at McDonald's the other day. It's
- been too long. Now on to business...
-
- In a message of <Dec 31 18:21>, Leah Wesolowski (1:373/12) writes:
-
- LW>Governor Hunt is Republican. That makes him unpopular with many
- LW>people in power in Montgomery, including the State Attorney
- LW>General.
-
- Leah, open your eyes. Like you, I had high hopes for Governor Hunt when he
- was first elected. But there has been absolutely no leadership shown from the
- Governor's Office in at least the last three years. The tax reform issue is a
- prime example. Hunt said he was in favor of it. But was he willing to stick
- his neck out and really campaign for it? No, he just came up with totally
- useless and stupid metaphors like, "I'm not gonna kiss that mule until the
- Legislature agrees to." Really.
-
-
- LW>Democatz were busy clawing each other's eyes out he was
- LW>conducting an issue oriented campaign.
-
- Well, I was living in New York at the time, but still had a mail subscription
- to the Sunday edition of the Birmingham News. I don't recall him conducting an
- "issue oriented" campaign, just a "vote for the nice guy (no pun intended)"
- campaign.
-
-
- LW>attacked anyone, no. Instead he has made the statement that the
- LW>tax-payer will not bear the brunt of the expenses incurred in his
- LW>defense. Yet another example of his integrity, something that
-
- Some folks in Montgomery are taking a I'll-believe-that-when-I-see-it
- attitude towards the Governor's statement that he will pay his own legal
- expenses.
-
- I'll tell you how I feel about it. I don't think that Hunt is a total crook,
- but I think that there is some unethical behavior mixed in with a lot of
- stupidity. Have you read the charges? He supposedly funneled money from a
- non-profit corporation to a political organization to his personal use. And
- $200,000.00 isn't peanuts, either.
-
- Do you recall what Hunt did at the state level before becoming governor? He
- was head of some state agricultural development office. He was accused there of
- forcing political support from state employees, and expense account
- irregularities. If you recall, he resigned under a cloud. Inside scoop has it
- he resigned to avoid being indicted.
-
- If you've been watching this unfold, you will notice that with very few
- exceptions, the state Republican Party hierarchy (like Emory Folmar and Jean
- Sullivan) is distancing itself from the Governor. You might be wise to follow
- their example.
