  34.    Well, I was living in New York at the time, but still had a mail subscription 
  35. to the Sunday edition of the Birmingham News.  I don't recall him conducting an 
  36. "issue oriented" campaign, just a "vote for the nice guy (no pun intended)" 
  37. campaign.

  44.    Some folks in Montgomery are taking a I'll-believe-that-when-I-see-it 
  45. attitude towards the Governor's statement that he will pay his own legal 
  46. expenses.

  48.    I'll tell you how I feel about it.  I don't think that Hunt is a total crook, 
  49. but I think that there is some unethical behavior mixed in with a lot of 
  50. stupidity.  Have you read the charges?  He supposedly funneled money from a 
  51. non-profit corporation to a political organization to his personal use.  And 
  52. $200,000.00 isn't peanuts, either.

  54.    Do you recall what Hunt did at the state level before becoming governor?  He 
  55. was head of some state agricultural development office.  He was accused there of 
  56. forcing political support from state employees, and expense account 
  57. irregularities.  If you recall, he resigned under a cloud.  Inside scoop has it 
  58. he resigned to avoid being indicted.

  60.    If you've been watching this unfold, you will notice that with very few 
  61. exceptions, the state Republican Party hierarchy (like Emory Folmar and Jean 
  62. Sullivan) is distancing itself from the Governor.  You might be wise to follow 
  63. their example.
