  13. You appear to be using the original IBM PC character set
  14. in recode-3.2.4.  You  should instead be using the superset
  15. called the "code page 850" character set.  You'll find the
  16. chart for this character set in the back of IBM's manual
  17. for DOS 3.3 or higher.

  19. Code page 850 includes support for Danish, Norwegian, and
  20. Portuguese, which is lacking in the original PC character set.

  22. Your use of the old PC character set shows up in coverting
  23. Latin1 Portuguese text to Macintosh.  Both of these support
  24. Portuguese, but because you go via IBM PC, the text is clobbered!
