  12. Is there a way inside of emacs to change the number of lines emacs believes
  13. is on the screen?

  15. A quick perusal of the source shows that emacs checks for screen size via the 
  16. signal() and ioctl()s.  I frequently login to work from  home via 
  17. a Mac running NCSA telnet.  I can and do display 32 lines on the screen and 
  18. emacs refuses to acknowledge this.  I also note that the LINES shell variable
  19. is ignored.
