- Terry, just a point of information.... the "gun lobby" (at least most of the
- prominent organizations typically recognized as being "gun lobby") is firmly
- on record as being in support of bills this last legislative season which would
- have supported upgrades to management of criminal records (now still done on
- paper in some states, and at best done in widely incompatible systems currently)
- so an instant background check could be performed --- a real check, in contrast
- to the non-check from, for example, Brady bill. This of course would have had
- benefits beyond just control of firearms too. I supported this strongly, and
- sent letters to my congress-creatures saying as such. Its too bad these bills
- (one each in senate and house, I believe) were shot down by the anti-gun lobby.
- If HCI and their backers in congress are really interested in crime control, in
- contrast to gun control, then I wonder why they just didn't accept this very
- real offer when it was made?
-
- Anyway, just wanted to correct the point -- we don't want bad guys getting
- guns, and have made substantive efforts towards that end.
-
- Cheers,
