- Yes. Some of us thought that the gun stuff had migrated, but it
- has returned to the group. The local gun newsgroup seems to
- be genuine (there are posts there). Perhaps some system admins
- are not permitting access. A possible solution is that those
- interested in dc and guns could do this by e-mail with a
- distribution list. Every week one of the interested parties
- could post a notice concerning the existance of the newsletter,
- and any local events which might interest the general public.
- Of course, for this to work, both sides of this thing have to
- be civil enough to follow implement this. Perhaps someone
- out there would volunteer to start the first message
- rolling and solicit for the distribution list ( I would, but
- I'm out of here again for a few days).
-
- The gun discussion could be a public service
- if the material was *directly* related to dc, and the posters would
- properly cite laws, regulations, policy statements, and reports; with
- direct quotations and statistics **properly identified**
- (enough so the average jo could look it up for herself without
- having to call the author for what she meant by so-and-so said
- in her "latest report"). Unfortunately, what we have instead is
- alot of sound and fury which has no real significance and is
- neither convincing anyone, nor educating anyone. *If* there are
- any useful tidbits about the judicial system, legislation, or
- our relationship to the police and criminals, they are lost to
- the average reader because she has no desire to sift through
- all of the trash to find the things that are useful and/or important
- to know.
