  17. NCD PC-XView with Xremote works decently (for me in a local-connect
  18. trial setup at 9600bps async).  They're selling the Xremote/PC-Xview
  19. package for $200 now.

  21. A couple of cautions.
  22.  
  23. 1) I had a HUGE .Xdefaults file.  I trimmed it way down,
  24.    and client startup time improved quite a bit.
  25.  
  26. 2) The Xremote release notes say, and my experience verifies, that
  27.    your PC should have a 16550 serial controller chip (the one 
  28.    with a character silo) instead of a '450 if you're going 
  29.    to be running serial communications at >= 9600bps
  30.    on MS Windows.  Most PCs come with not-good-enough serial 
  31.    controller chips.   You can probably buy the appropriate
  32.    serial card in a computer store for < $50.
