- I just finished replacing an antique 60 MB tape drive with
- Emulex SCSI adapter with an Archive 4540NT DAT drive. Doesn't
- seem to be any difference except that the DAT drive holds more
- data and seems to be better buffered. (I get about 8.7 MB/min
- backing up with afio on a 486/50, Adaptec 1542A, and Wren V).
-
- The SCO online doco talks about some nifty commands for an HP
- DAT drive, but I don't know if they apply to the Archive.
-
- So I would venture that most SCSI cartridge tape drives look about
- the same to SCO Unix, "modulo" capacity, speed and reliability.
- From an operational aspect, the larger tapes make it easier
- to backup more often because one tape holds an entire backup.
- It is certainly easier to take one DAT cartridge off-site than
- 10-30 60 mb cartridges!
-
- BTW, my DAT drive came without a manual, and all I have so far
- is a description of the switches. Any description of what this
- drive (Arhcive Python 4540 NT) can do would be welcome.
