  17. I just finished replacing an antique 60 MB tape drive with
  18. Emulex SCSI adapter with an Archive 4540NT DAT drive.  Doesn't
  19. seem to be any difference except that the DAT drive holds more
  20. data and seems to be better buffered.  (I get about 8.7 MB/min
  21. backing up with afio on a 486/50, Adaptec 1542A, and Wren V).

  23. The SCO online doco talks about some nifty commands for an HP
  24. DAT drive, but I don't know if they apply to the Archive.

  26. So I would venture that most SCSI cartridge tape drives look about
  27. the same to SCO Unix, "modulo" capacity, speed and reliability.
  28. From an operational aspect, the larger tapes make it easier
  29. to backup more often because one tape holds an entire backup.
  30. It is certainly easier to take one DAT cartridge off-site than
  31. 10-30 60 mb cartridges!

  33. BTW, my DAT drive came without a manual, and all I have so far
  34. is a description of the switches.  Any description of what this
  35. drive (Arhcive Python 4540 NT) can do would be welcome.
