- We installed a CY8500 on our Sequent S27 and had problems. The salesman
- said "yea we have done it." When ask to verify, he did.
-
- The problem is, they had not done "what I wanted". I was very clear and
- he explained back to me what I wanted just fine.
-
- (use Single Ended SCSI, which Sqnt only supports for cartridge drives?)
-
- I worked with Tech support and they turned from mildly insulting to
- somewhat helpful. (maybe he didn't get a check? maybe he realized the problem)
- Tech support would ask engineering and "transfer" info back.
- (not that he was "bad", just not able to answer my questions.)
-
- I had trouble getting an engineer, i.e. someone who had clue 1 about more
- than the manual. It turned out to include several missed conference calls.
- I.e. I waited after hours twiddling my thumbs.
- (talking to this guy for 10 minutes early on would have been helpful)
-
- I had not updated the configuration to include changes in the driver interface.
- They had not "really looked at how sec_scsi" worked there.
-
- The system crashed until he was satisfied.
-
- A technician made his second appointment (i.e. missed first) and put
- a scsi analyser on. The results for the cartridge driver are being used
- to modify the CY8500 code to make it "work like a cartrige".
-
- I sent the unit back for updates (~2months) and expect to recieve it back
- soon.
-
- I do not know what effect being a UNIX VAR had on my response time. We also
- have our clients (not via us) using these units off of Pertec cards.
-
- I'm not ready to say if I am satisfied or not. Talking to there "folks" I
- was pretty sure what could happen.
-
- :-)
