- Hi gang!
-
-
- I have an ISC 3.0 running on ISA, 486/33, with 16 MB of memory.
- From time to time system is freezeing, to the point that only
- BIG RED BUTTON can restart it.
-
- I can almost repeat it - turning accounting on, and running
- backup is a 60% shot. It also happens during other intensive
- applications - running crack for couple hours, and expire/upact
- sometimes causes such situation.
-
- Couple of times I was witnessing it: when it happens, machine
- first stops responding to input characters - it no longer echoes
- whatever is typed into open sessions, it does not echo login name
- typed at login prompt; just scrolls screen. I have u386mon runnig
- all time, and it responds to commands like [pme] for a while, but
- finaly it also stops respondng. This same goes with any session on
- serial lines. Outgoing characters are sent for a while longer -
- even u386mon does not respond to typed commands, it still updates
- display for couple minutes. Finally, it stops updates.
-
- When it happens, disk heads are not moving ( with my drives, I can
- hear when they are moving), but u386mon shows that system is
- spending 85% waiting for io .
-
-
- Any clues ? Any pointers ??? Somenone with better knowledge of
- SYSV please, help !
